Anatomy of a Murder Trial

Jerrianne Hayslett worked as the Los Angeles Superior Court media liaison during The People vs. O.J. Simpson and had unprecedented access to the trial. Hayslett’s book, Anatomy of a Murder Trial, will be the focus of her presentations for Comm Week. Hayslett is to present the details of the untold story from the most widely followed trial in American history, that involved a double murder, a celebrity defendant, a perjuring witness, and a glove that did not fit. From the detailed journal she kept during the trial, Hayslett exposes audiences to the court-media landscape, anecdotes and commentary from the trial of the century. The trial that judges, lawyers and journalists say changed everything, will be uncovered at Comm Week 2009.

During her tenure with the Los Angeles court, Jerrianne Hayslett dealt with media issues and coordinated media logistics for numerous other high-profile cases, including the Menendez brothers, Heidi Fleiss, Rodney King beating, the O. J. Simpson civil trial and two cases involving Michael Jackson.
Since leaving the court in 2002, Hayslett has worked as a writer and media-relations consultant specializing in national and international court programs and projects.

She assisted with Michael Jackson child-molestation case in Santa Barbara County. Her articles have been published in California Lawyer, Court Manager, Courts Today, NJC Alumni, California County and The Judges' Journal.

Do not miss Anatomy of a Murder Trial at Comm Week 2009. Hayslett will be speaking at on Monday, April 20 at 9:00 a.m., in the Titan Theater, hosted by Professor Belmas and at 4:00 p.m., in Pavilion B, hosted by Professors Howell and Pullen. Flyer #2

This second flyer has a shout out to our blog! (At the very bottom)

Meet the Task Force!

All great events have one thing in common: There are many, many people, you never see that put the event together. In the case of Comm Week, it is the Comm Week Task Force.

Each task force member is a student at Cal State Fullerton. Even though we have different educational goals, we are all united in one task. Each of us knows that Comm Week 2009 is going to be the best one in the event’s 31-year history.

Our Executive Committee is doing a great job keeping us all on track and keeping us excited for the long road ahead.

The Hospitality Committee has the job of making our guests feel welcomed, as well as the over all look and feel of the University Conference Center during Comm Week.

The Communications Committee has the grand task of generating all press releases, flyers, blogs, publicity and all internal communications for Comm Week.

Each member of the task force is paired with professors from the College of Communications. Aligning with the classes that our professors teach, each Task Force member must then find speakers to become a “Speaker for a Day” for that professor.

The Committee with the most arduous task is the Scheduling and Logistics Committee. They are responsible for keeping a database of all of the speakers’ information and audio visual needs for Comm Week.

As the excitement grows for Comm Week, so does the pace of the planning. As of Monday March 23, 2009 there are 29 days left until this exciting event begins.

For more information about our task force members including extra pictures and bios please visit our official website:

Welcome!

Welcome to the first ever Comm Week blog! We are pleased to have you with us. With Comm Week fast approaching, the Comm Week Task Force is busy underway preparing for another amazing year.

What is Comm Week you ask? Comm Week is a student-run conference here at Cal State Fullerton open to every and any major. Students, faculty, and staff from all Colleges of the campus are invited as Communication students host and plan this special event. Within the week there are guest speakers, professional panels, a poetry slam, movie screenings, and special events including mixers and Q&A’s with some of the communication industry’s leading players.

Now you may be asking yourself, how does this pertain to me if I’m not Journalism or Advertising major? Well, Comm Week is presented by the College of Communications. The College of Communications is the larger umbrella over the Department of Radio, TV and Film, Department of Human Communication Studies, and the Department of Communications. So you can see that this event directly impacts three departments, but all students are encouraged to attend. Perhaps a Criminal Justice major would be interested in hearing a crisis communications speaker or an Art student would love to hear a speaker talk about ways to be discovered with new media.

Comm Week at CSUF is celebrating our 31st birthday this year, and we know this will be a year you will never forget. We’re looking forward to seeing you there, and right here for all the exciting updates along the way!
