Debriefing Day Three!

WOW!!? Was this even a Comm Week day!? Compared to Monday and Tuesday, today was very easy. Our schedule was not as booked.

Today was more fun, and now we are settling into the swing of things.

Collette's was wonderful today with our catering and everything came and was beautiful.

Many Comm Week task force students were honored at the Kappa Tau Alpha, the Communications honor society. Great Job guys! You set the example for the rest of us.

Candice made the front page of the Daily Titan today, along with a picture taken by Jenni!

Some of our speaker surveys have come back already and on a scale of one to 10, we are averaging 8.5 so far!

Faculty gifts are going out tomorrow at the Faculty lunch, along with the Comm Week gift bags.

Even though the pace was slower today, we have to make sure to keep the energy high, and staffing consistent.

Tomorrow we will be breaking down our break room, there is a lot of food and stuff in here!

This will be our last official Comm Week day with Michelle. Thank you to her and all of her hard work. We could not have done it with out her.

One more day to go guys and gals! We've been doing awesome. Keep up the energy and the hard work!

Day four, here we come!

Debriefing Day Two!

Holy moly I can hardly feel my feet. We're two days down! We seemed to all be up and running about all day long!

We had a great connections with speakers today. Most were mingling in the speaker lounge thanks to our great introductions!

Most of the fires that were on the verge of starting never actually erupted into flames due to our attention to detail.

Time and time again, we have heard what what and amazing job we're doing. Speakers are continually impressed. Even though we know it, we have heard speakers and teachers tell us that this is the best Comm Week ever!

We need to focus on the fact that we are not done yet. We are basically living together for the next few days, and for the last two, so even though tempers can be short, kill it with kindness. This whole event is bigger than any one little misstep.

Between paper towels, and the wonderful TSU AV staff, fast pants, and walkie talkies, we have a lot of things to remember. We've created a wonderful event. Kudos and smearites to us all.

Bring on Day Three!

Debriefing Day One!!

The hum of the room slowly rises as more task force members gather.

The left over spaghetti is being divided up by Alison.

With tired eyes and feel we gather to discuss the day. Going around the room we all shared the positive things for today. There were too many good things to say. Everyone was very professional, dressed to impress. Pam Caldwell and Nancy Byurne gave us kudos for our professional event. From the Dance Crew, Cross-Comm Internship Panel, our first speaker Carlos Delgado, our special event with Jerriane Hayslett and all of the other speakers that made this day a success.
There are a few things we can work on. Make sure we sign in and out! There needs to be a clock in the Speakers Lounge. We missed the mark on ice. We will be bringing coolers with wheels for the ice, and they will be kept in the ticket booth. Speaker lunches and student lunches will happen tomorrow at the same time. Communication is key!

Taking care of our guests is key. Putting on a wonderful event is happening but we have 5 more days to go!

Comm Week is Here!

The first day of Comm Week 09' is in full swing.

The task force was hard at work late into the wee hours of the morning last night. We then arrived bright and early today to make sure the University Conference Center was organized and looking well for our guests.

I am currently sitting in class along with some other Comm Week task force members. Even though our eye lids are heavy we are proud and excited.

Comm Week is still going strong tonight, so check the Schedule At A Glance for speakers and upcoming events!

Pumping Up The Volume With Kaylin!

So first off I just want to say that this is my first blog EVER and I am quite excited about this! Overall, Comm Week has been one of those want to rip your hair out because you’re so stressed but jump and sing at the same time because you’re just having so much fun, type of experiences. I have made some great friends so far throughout this experience and whether it is getting riled up in a meeting,

drinking some awesome punch at our meetings at Michelle’s house,

running around campus staking, chalking with Comm Week friends,

or carrying 50 pound boxes through the TSU full of thousands of Communiques,

it is all incredibly memorable and insanely fun all at the same time. I feel like the Comm Week Task Force has become another family to me and I know that I can call anyone of my committee members and get help on any task, vent for however long I may need to or just talk about what I had for lunch that day and no matter what they are there to lend support (maybe not the talking about lunch part—I try not to bore my committee if at all possible). But overall this Comm Week experience has been amazing and I can’t wait to see it all through fruition!! I will blog again soon, so keep a look out!

Pumping Up The Volume with Shannon!

This semester has been something else. I never expected to get so involved with my campus. For the last few years I have been like every other CSUF student. I came to class did my work and left. Comm Week has changed all of this and for the better!

I love the people I work with. Every single person brings so much to the table. It has been such an honor to get to know my fellow students as well as faculty. I love being able to walk around campus and run into someone I know at every corner and who I have something to talk about with. It brings so much more to the college experience.

The most amazing part of Comm Week has been building something with my fellow task force. Even with every challenge (and trust me there have been many) there has been an amazing experience behind it. Working as a team we have all become stronger and got to know more about ourselves and each other than I think any of us ever expected.

I can’t wait to share Comm Week with you next week. I hope you can see the hard work and dedication that came from so many individuals and more importantly a team

Pumping Up The Volume With Angie!

This has been my best friend for the past couple of weeks. This is Angie, your Scheduling and Logistics director sharing with you the beauties of excel and mail merge.

I’m counting down the days until Comm Week and with another day approaches comes new and interesting challenges as S & L director. First off, up there is a screen shot of the speaker database our hard working task force has built. As of now, we have over 70 speakers! And that is a major accomplishment. Using this spreadsheet is the hub of the information for Comm Week. It is where the other committees obtain information about the speakers and their presentations. Our database guru is Keoni, and his hard work is shown through all the details of this database.

The beauty of the database is that it has helped me become a pro at mail merge. What mail merge does is takes all this information in the databases and cranks out new documents such as nametags, letters and mailing addresses that are accurate. This saves us time from typing each person’s name. And boy it’s been my second best friend. I’ve had to mail merge address labels, letters and emails. Can you imagine actually typing up 70 letters? But thanks to mail merge, I was able to work through all these docs in shorter time.

I know most of these docs are tedious to do and compile. But it is a piece of what makes Comm Week a success. It’s the glue that holds all the information together. Without these small, finer details, many other things would not happen like website updates or faculty confirmation letters or signage.

Now, off to do some confirmation letters! This is your S & L Director signing off! See you at Comm Week!

Pumping Up The Volume with Blake, our CEO!

This has definitely been a tough but rewarding semester. It has personally been tough for me since I decided to take the CEO role for Comm Week, PR Management, my internship, and hold two jobs all at the same time. However, with Comm Week being only a week away, it seems I have so much to do and only so little time to do it. All our taskforce members have been working extremely hard to make this event a success. I have lost sleep, missed classes, and spent more time then I could imagine on Comm Week 2009.

Although we are so close, we are not quite there yet. With final details and decisions being made in every committee it can be very overwhelming at times. However, I know in the end when I see the finished product it will all be worth it. We will all be able to look back and smile at the event that we have created. We are all so close to the finish line and I know sometimes it’s easier to give up then to push through. On that note, I want to commend this years’ taskforce for all their time and hard work they have given with the creation of what will be the best Comm Week ever!!!

Pumping Up The Volume With Justine!

Yesterday some of the Task Force members went chalking and staking. I always see things chalked on Titan Walk or signs in planters and never think about the work that went into it. But let me tell you it’s a lot more work than you would think. Luckily my group was very handy and I didn’t have to hammer anything. Personally hammers and staple guns are not my forte so it probably would have been pretty tragic! When I left campus they were not done chalking but it was looking really good. I can’t wait to see the final product.

I can’t believe Comm Week is only a week away! It feels like just yesterday I was stalking my titan online to see if I was off the waiting list and enrolled in the class. It’s crazy how time flies! One of the best parts of this whole process is seeing how everything is coming together and how everyone’s hard work is paying off. I love how at first everyone has a bunch of ideas and it seems impossible to make them all a reality. Somehow those ideas have turned into a reality and it is exciting to be a part of it. Yay Comm Week 09!

Pumping Up The Volume With Brittany, our CFO!

Hello Everyone,

So, Comm Week has been an exhilarating experience for me thus far! It has presented me with so many obstacles to overcome and with that, numerous tools to utilize beyond my college experience. I feel like, more than ever before, I am gaining a wealth of knowledge that can realistically be implemented into my everyday professional career after graduation.

Since I am in charge of monitoring and maintaining the budget, the pressure has been on to keep a tight reign on the funds we are allowed to spend for Comm Week. So, as one could imagine, dealing with such worries isn’t the most easy-going job. However, the entire taskforce has consistently helped me in regards to keeping it under wraps and I am truly grateful! More so, everyday I am amazed by what each member has and continues to produce.

It’s crazy!! Comm Week is less than two weeks away! I am feeling pretty nervous as we approach but am confident this event is going to be a hit!

Gooooooo Comm Week 2009!! 

Pumping Up The Volume With Nicole!

Being apart of the Comm Week Task Force has been a great experience for me so far. I’ve had so much exposure on what it takes to run an event. Being apart of the hospitality committee has been really nice. We all work together as a team to make decisions on decorations or balloons, for example and help each other out when needed. It’s been a lot of fun using my creative skills to make the over all look of Comm Week elegant for speakers. Though, we have had some challenges with deadlines, it’s all work it in the end!

Pumping Up The Volume With Lauren Harris!

So far, Comm Week has been a rollercoaster ride to say the least! It is one that is thrilling, surprising, exhausting, and most of all rewarding. I have built relationships with the advisors, faculty members, and my fellow task force members.

In the Hospitality Committee, we are in decision-making-mode. We are making sure that no detail is left until the last minute to guarantee an impressive look, feel, and experience. We hit the ground running from week one, and have continued to work hard. I know that these next few weeks are going to be intense and memorable at the same time.

This week, I am very excited to read a story featured on our university’s website about analyzing media, mentioning media critic Brian Lowry—the speaker I helped place! I am pumped—and ready for Comm Week ‘09!
